Los Angeles Lakers Hire Frank Vogel

The Los Angeles Lakers and Frank Vogel have reached an agreement for Vogel to become the next head coach of the Lakers. The deal is reported to be a three-year deal. Vogel met with the Lakers management on Thursday, and it went really well, and the Lakers decided to hire Vogel.

Joining Vogel’s staff will be former NBA player and coach Jason Kidd. Adding Kidd to the staff, I think is not a bad idea. He will help in the development of Lonzo Ball and has a relationship history with LeBron James.

Vogel emerged as a top candidate after talks with the Lakers, and Tyronn Lue fail apart. Vogel had the backing of former coach Phil Jackson and Kurt Rambis, who Jeanie Buss leaned on during this process

In his last coaching stint with the Orlando Magic for two years, Vogel went 29-53 and 25- 57. The magic was trying to rebuild, but it did not work out well for Vogel. Vogel made his mark in coaching in his time with the Indiana Pacers. He led the Pacers to back to back Eastern Conference finals appearances in 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. Those Pacers teams were known for their hardcore defense. The Pacers gave the Miami Heat a run for their money in the conference finals.

In his time with the Pacers, Vogel went 250-181, and his total coaching record is 304-291. In the playoffs, his record is 31-30.

The former Pacer and Magic coach will need to find an offensive-minded assistant to complement Vogel’s defense. Vogel is not big name coach, but he will help the Lakers out big time on the defensive end. He will just need to hire a stable coaching staff to build a good offense.
